One thing we know is that Macallan is a high-end single-malt scotch, one that has the potential to fetch a big chunk of change. Introduced in 2016 and limited to 450 individually numbered bottles worldwide, the 65 year old whisky contained within the decanter is one of the oldest and. The Whisky measures at 51 alcohol by volume, but there weren’t details released as to how long the cask has aged to date. A cabinet housing the decanter was crafted using wood from a fallen elm tree, which is thought to have been on The Macallan Estate in 1940. The Macallan presents a peerless single malt whisky matured over seventy-eight extraordinary years under the watchful eye of generations of whisky makers. The first was a cask of Scotch whisky, which works out to 608 bottles of the stuff. It’s also a tribute to the people who made this precious whisky and their enduring spirit which never wavered. According to the Speyside distillery, each hand “represents those who played a part in this whisky and The Macallan’s legacy from 1940 to the modern day and beyond” (that would include the distillery workers in 1940, former chairman Allan Shiach and current Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell, who selected the cask). The 288 available decanters of the liquid ($125,000 each) are housed in mouth-blown glass, cradled by three bronze hands created by Scottish sculptor Saskia Robinson. Just released, The Reach is an 81 year-old single Scotch malt whisky distilled in 1940 - the distillery says it’s their oldest release ever, and from what we can tell, it’s now the oldest by anyone. It was just last fall when we were praising what was then the world’s oldest single malt, Generations 80 Years Old from Glenlivet Distillery, a very limited-edition bottling from Gordon & MacPhail.īut that record was just broken by The Macallan.
